“The moons have aligned and cast five shadows across the land, signaling each nation to send forth their bravest warriors. Only time will tell who will fill the vacant thrones in this Gauntlet of Gods.”

Welcome to our thirteenth 3D Community Challenge, where you have the month of August to design a 3D character and their animated trading! Use your favorite 3D program, our provided template and our 13 hand-crafted animations to build your submission by August 31st.

After the deadline, everyone can battle with their custom card in the Gauntlet of Gods trading card game, which will adapt to the creative choices you make this month! This game is for the community, by the community, and will always be free to play digitally. We're also printing, packaging and shipping a limited physical run of the top 100 submissions, with all profits being donated to UNESCO’s International Fund for Cultural Diversity to support creative projects and artists in need around the globe.

Let’s learn, grow, and create something together this month! Good luck and have fun!

Get Started!

1. Download the template
Download the template (v3, updated August 04 2026)
You've read the rules, now it's time to get your hands dirty! As always, we have prepared a template for you to download. The template file is available for Blender, Cinema4D, and Unreal Engine, as well as a simple FBX file. Inside, you will find the source projects, example renders, and all of the provided animations.
2. Choose an animation
Choose from our collection of hand-crafted animations to bring your champion to life! This time we have prepared 13 animations ranging from melee warriors and fighters to mages and rangers, so take your pick! But you are not limited to these animations - feel free to create your own!
3. Create your card overlay

Each cool card art needs a cooler overlay! Not only does it make your card look the part, but it also shows all the important information. Choose a card color, select your power level, and pick an ability that best represents your creation, so your card plays how you want it to in the card game we'll be making together.

Use our card creator to generate the overlay you want!

4. Render out your animation

This is the best part. Design, create, and animate your champion! There are no limits to what you can do. Jungle-dwelling robot druid? Cyberpunk karate cat? Cool sunglasses-wearing wizard? The sky is the limit!

There is no limit to what software you can use to create your submission. As long as your animation meets our Tech Specs you are good to go. As always, we are disallowing any use of generative AI.

5. Complete your card

On top of your 3d animation, you'll also need to finalize your 2D card so you can use it on the battlefield. Check out our Card Guide to see how to properly export your submission-ready card.

The resulting card will be in a .zip format, there is no need to open or modify the file. It is ready for submission.

Submit your art! Submission link will be available in
6. Submit everything!
You're done? Great! Time to submit your files! You will need your animation video file and the .zip file you created earlier. Click the button to start. This time it won't take you to the submission form straight away - we have prepared a file checker where you can verify that your files adhere to the Tech Specs. Make sure to use it!

About the game

The Gauntlet of Gods card game is a community-built card battler designed by AJ Brandon, in close collaboration with Create with Clint team. Opponents take turns playing cards in lanes, and initiating battle in order to deal enough damage to their opponent to claim victory. We want to achieve two things with this card game: First, artists must be able to create any character card they want, so they can directly play their creation in the game. And second, we had to build a functional card game that is easy and fun to play.

Each card has a unique ability, color, and power level (power also doubles as health and turn order), that directly affect how your card plays in battle. Limiting each of these attributes ensures the card game actually functions, while also giving artists the creative freedom to create the cards they want this month.

Because this card game is for the community, by the community, the digital version will ALWAYS and forever be free to play. No ads. No BS. You can play the beta version now with temp cards, then shortly after the August 31st deadline, we’ll populate the game with your submissions for the complete experience.

We're teaming up with CREO and we are printing, packaging and shipping a limited physical run of the top 100 submissions, with all profits being donated to UNESCO’s International Fund for Cultural Diversity to support creative projects and artists in need around the globe.

The IFCD International Fund for Cultural Diversity

The International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) was started by UNESCO in 2005 as a way to bolster creative and cultural communities in developing countries.

As a community of internationally diverse artists, it was important for us to find a vetted charity (in this case, a fund) that specifically focuses on funding art projects to help artists around the globe. UNESCO’s International Fund for Cultural Diversity checked all those boxes for us. Here’s what they have to say about themselves, straight from their site:

“The IFCD is one of the few United Nations funds that supports arts and cultural bodies, government institutions and non-governmental organizations in the Global South to develop stronger cultural and creative industries (CCIs) in their countries. It funds innovative projects across the globe within the fields of cinema, performing arts, visual arts, and media arts, as well as design, music, and publishing.

By working together, we are building lasting change so that everyone can express and enjoy diverse cultural expressions. We invest in people who might otherwise not have the chance to upgrade their skills and networks. We also invest in developing and implementing policies that are based on evidence and are inclusive. The goal is to support communities to build thriving cultural and creative industries.”

Shortly after pre-orders close and CREO recoups their printing costs for the card game, the entirety of the profits will be directly donated to the International Fund for Cultural Diversity.

  • Card Overlay: Your card without the artwork. Downloaded from the Card Creator.

  • Card Creator: Our web-portal for creating and downloading your TCG card.

champion

What does it mean to make a Champion who’s “ready for battle”? A battle-ready Champion is taking an action that would appear to influence the battlefield when played in the card game, such as an attack, a spell, a tactical movement, an assist, a status change, a buff/debuff, etc. #1
Does my Champion have to be a character? Yes. We are not looking for inanimate objects or environments. #2
Does the Champion in my animation have to be the Champion in my card submission? Yes. #3
Does my Champion have to be humanoid? No, even though all our provided animations are humanoid, you are more than welcome to submit other types of Champions as well. #4
Can my Champion be a Duo or a Team? Yes. #5
Can I change the perceived scale of my Champion? Yes! You can make them giant or tiny, as long as they are the focus of the card. #6

animation

Do I have to use one of the 13 provided character animations in my submission? No. They are just there to help you get a headstart. #7
Does my Champion have to be in-frame for the entire 5 seconds? Your Champion should be in-frame for the majority of the animation. #8
Does my Champion have to stay inside the Card Overlay after the card slams in on frame 60? Yes, they should hold their card pose after the card slams in on frame 60, as this should be the look of your Champion in your final card submission. However you may animate your Champion out during the last 5 frames of the animation. #9
Does my Champion have to go slow motion once they’re framed by their card in the animation? No. Slow motion is not required, but it may be a good way to keep some animations composed within the Card Overlay. #10
Can my submission be “holographic”? Yes, baking in a holographic effect is okay, but only the Top 5 will get printed as physical holographic cards. #11
Can my Champion interact with the Card Overlay in my animated submission? Yes, as long as the Card Overlay remains mostly legible and mostly intact. #12
Can I obscure my Card Overlay with lighting, objects, or effects? Yes, as long as the Card Overlay remains mostly legible and mostly intact. #13
Does the Card Overlay have to be in the 3D Animation Submission? Yes #AD1

card

What if none of the abilities fit with my Champion? Then try to pick one based on its in-game effect vs its literal name. (eg. Freeze doesn’t have to be an ice-based Champion.) #14
Can I create my own ability for my Champion and not use the ones on the Card Creator? No. Each ability has been carefully designed and balanced to make for the best gameplay experience. #15
For my card submission, can I customize my Card Overlay beyond what the Card Creator allows for? No, we want the cards to feel uniform, like they’re coming from the same card game. #16
Does my Card Overlay (color, name, ability, power level) in my 3D animation have to match my 2D card submission? Yes. #17
Does the card in my 3D animation and my 2D card submission need to look the same? Yes. You may do post-processing on the 3D animation (including the Card Overlay). The 2D card still frame you chose should have the same post-processing applied. #18

card game

Do I need to learn how to play the card game in order to participate? No, the card game and its mechanics have been designed to adapt to any Champion you create for this challenge. But it wouldn’t hurt to hop in and play the digital beta card game. #19
Will the physical game be available for purchase after the pre-order window? No. The pre-order window of August 1st - September 18 is your only chance to pre-order the physical game. After that there will be no more copies left for purchase. #20
When will the physical card game be shipped? In May 2027. #21

submission

How do I know I am submitting my final 2D Card properly? We built the Card Creator to export the exact files you’ll need for your card submission. Simply upload the .zip file directly from the card creator, along with your video submission, and you’ll be good. #22
What if I don’t want my card printed in the physical card game if I make Top 100? By submitting to the challenge you agree that your card may be printed. #23
Are there any age or country restrictions for participation in this challenge? No, but we use Google Forms to collect submissions and can’t guarantee that service is supported in your country. #24

ip

Why can’t I use licensed characters in my submission? Since the physical, printed version of the Gauntlet of Gods card game will be built from the Top 100 submissions, the Top 100 Montage must not feature licensed characters. #25
Can I submit characters that are in the public domain? Yes, as long as their designs aren’t owned by someone else. (e.g. The character Thor as a mythological character would be okay to use, but Thor from the Avengers would be off limits.) #26
Can I use Metahuman characters? Yes. Read more here. #27
Can I use FAB Assets? Yes. Read more here. #28
Can I use DAZ assets? Yes. Read more here. #29
Can I use Mixamo assets? Yes. Read more here. #30
Can I use Big, Medium, Small assets Yes. Read more here. #31
Can I use Kitbash3D assets? Yes. Read more here. #32
Can I use Sketchfab assets? As long as the license is Standard, Free Standard, or CC0, you’re good. Read more here. #33
Can I use x, y, z asset from x, y, z service? Unfortunately there’s no way for us to check every asset from every service, so you’ll need to check the specific license of the asset you’re using. It must be commercially usable and not require attribution. #34

camera

Can I touch the camera? No. #35
What camera settings can I change? Motion Blur/shutter speed, depth of field/aperture, subtle camera shake #36
How strong can my depth of field be? Your Champion should be in focus, and your card should still be legible. #37

technical

What happens if I don't follow the rules of the challenge? Your render may be disqualified and removed from the montage(s). #38
What happens if I don’t follow the tech specs? Your render may be disqualified and removed from the montage(s). #39
Where is the submission link? The submission link will be made available halfway through the challenge on Friday, August 14th at 10:00 AM PDT. #40
Can I submit more than once or update my submission? No, only one submission will be accepted per person. Multiple submissions (including versioning) will result in a DQ. #41
What do the judges consider Generative AI? Image to image, image to video, image to mesh, text to image, text to video, text to mesh, AI render engines, creative upscalers, fully generated animation, Comfy UI workflows or any generative AI tools built into any software. #42

general

Can I do x, y, or z in my submission? While we can’t answer every question, just know that if you decide to bend the rules, you’re taking a creative risk. Please keep your idea within the spirit of the challenge. #43
Can I get feedback on my idea? You’re welcome to get feedback from the community at any time or from Clint and the moderation team during the scheduled feedback sessions. #44
How old do I have to be to enter? No age restrictions. #45
I live in "X Country". Can I participate? Absolutely! Just know that some physical prizes for Top 5 may have some shipping limitations. #46
Can I post my submission elsewhere on the internet before the montage is released? Of course, we do not own your submission in any way. Feel free to share your artwork wherever you'd like. Maybe you'll inspire others to join! #47
Can my submission include NSFW elements such as nudity, blood and gore, legible swearing? We generally use YouTube's content warnings (more info) as our guideline for these challenges. If your submission gets any of the montages flagged it will be removed. #48

judging

How is the Top 100 selected? Clint and the Moderation team start by reviewing every eligible submission, with the goal of deciding the ~Top 200. This selection is further reviewed and vetted until the Top 100 are locked. #49
I didn't get into the Top 100, did I break any rules? How do I know if I got disqualified? If you were disqualified, your timestamp will be missing from the “Artist Index” found in the All Renders Montage description. #50
How did that submission win? I saw other ones that should have taken its place instead? Everyone is entitled to their opinions and constructive criticism. But, we do not condone, respect, or tolerate any unnecessary negativity or harassment towards individuals or their submissions. Keep in mind that this is the result of a subjective selection through thoughtful deliberation. #51
Are Admins and Moderators allowed to participate in the challenge? Yes. However, members involved in the creation of the challenge will not be able to compete for the Top 5. The remaining members have received no prior exposure to the challenge and will be able to compete freely. #52

charity

What charity are you donating to and why did you choose that charity specifically? As a community of internationally diverse artists, it was important for us to find a vetted charity (in this case a fund) that specifically focuses on funding art projects that help artists around the globe. UNESCO’s International Fund for Cultural Diversity checked all those boxes for us. #53
How will the charity donation work? Are you making money from the sales of the game? No. We will not profit from sales of the game. After CREO recoups their production costs, the entirety of the profits will be donated to UNESCO’s International Fund for Cultural Diversity to support artists in need around the globe. #54
When will the money be donated to charity? CREO will donate the profit shortly after pre-orders close on September 18th. #55

conduct

I have evidence or a deep suspicion somebody has stolen or copied my idea, what should I do? We will not be investigating these claims as it is almost impossible to verify with certainty where an idea came from. It is possible for multiple people to be inspired in similar ways. But keep in mind, if you choose to post your “Work in Progress”, you run the risk of people being influenced by your creative decisions. #56
